The Bucket List

This Monday we kick started simple product design , guided digitally due to (our all time favourite ) COVID 19. I decided to play around with our everyday trusty BUCKET.

So , after discussing a few minutes about product functionality, purpose and context and redesign, we started with our first assignment . We were asked to sketch out the spectrum of our product from the most simple to the most complex . Here , I could think of two directions in terms of functionality (adding multiply functions) or form(visually manipulating the form). I tried to play with form keeping functionality in the center.

For the simple form, I stuck to our old and honest watertight cylinder and frustum fixed with a handle with a rotating angle. I tired to visualize two most common ways human hands interact with it.

Complex bucket

For the next part of the assignment , I tried to reduce the physical effort associated with a bucket . For the first , I added wheels and make the container part rotating , to eliminate the need to lift the bucket and mobility. Next, I tried to add a grip at the top so that it can be easily dragged. Also , I added temperature control system at the bottom . I reversed the frustum so as to minimize friction. I also tried to play around with the form turning it into a simple bucket .

Assignment 2

In this assignment we visually explored , different contexts in which the product can be used.

Context 1 and 2
Context 3 and 4

Although , seemingly different the purpose of the bucket remain conceptually same, storing and transferring liquids and fine materials. Sketching out different context provided me with a new perspective to each one and opened my mind to new ones.
