Not Bucket List-4
So we know our almighty bucket have traveled across time and space performing a range of task from helping in domestic chores to being adapted into a weapon during wars. But is the bucket only product humans use to store and travel water?
Answering this question I have tried to look around and find some product with similar function as a bucket.
MATKA(Indian earthen pots)
Primarily present in south Asia , matka is used to store water at a cool temperature till this day. But for people living desert areas or mountain areas , where they have to walk distances to access a usable source of water , matka are used as vessel to carry water . It’s form is highly spill proof and is easier to carry the stalk for females over distances. Though handle less , matka provides a good grip around it’s neck.To further ease to access water matka now comes with a tap.
KALASAA(Metal Pot)
Similar , to matka a kalsaa also used in the similar way . The only difference is due to material — metal. It is more long lasting and stronger than a matka. It also keeps the liquid inside warmer for colder days. They were also used in cooking .
MASHK(Water bag)
A mashk is a traditional water-carrying bag, usually made of waterproofed goat skin . Mashqs can vary in size, from a hand-held bag, which was often used to carry liquids such as alcohol, to a large man-sized bag that comes with shoulder strap. They usually have only one narrowed opening.
MODERN WATER BAG
After a story told by my mom of how they use to have bags made out of ‘mota kapda’ which they use to hang out of train windows to cool water. I google it actually found canvas water bags. Even after browsing through many articles it is still unclear to me how these work, as water would leak out.
Moving further into the time , water bags were starting to be made our of plastic which seems so much of a better solution than cloth bags. They low key reminded me of a trend that was popularized when I was young, markets were flooded with small , inexpensive plastic water bottles which can be flattened after water was drained out.
MILK CANS
It is astonishing to see the number of products we see daily. Though not use to carry water these milk cans are highly important , as they allow these local dairies deliver milk with generating any plastic waste. These can be hung on the sides of a bike or bicycle.
Looking for parallel products , made the purpose of my product more clear. The purpose of a bucket is similar to large water bottle, or a small water tank, as they all are use to transport liquid over distances. But unlike a tank or pot bucket generally is not use to store water for a long time but the contain it for the duration of the task. So , in this blog I tried to put products with similar purpose but not too far away from initial .
